It was a beautiful evening of excellent friends and good vibes at Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort. This is quickly becoming "the" spot to catch really good live shows in a warm and welcoming environment. We had a great time.
In November we lost Kelly (just as a band member. He's still alive and kicking), and then in December, Katie decided to become a free agent. As someone in school, she needs a little more freedom. Bands are like that...they say. We wouldn't have minded being a happy family for the rest of time...but both of these young people have plans and hopes and new opportunities, so we say "Go get 'em!" Man, it was fun while it was the four of us (with Tommy joining us on banjo most days). So, we are looking at the duo, Spencer and Joy, and seeing how to augment that...making sure we keep the quality of the music groovy, and keeping the show a lot of fun. We have enlisted the help of Deirdre McCarthy who has come to our aid before and has played with us for a while now, plus we are joined by Bart Wachtler, who plays with Red Moon Rounder, a local original band with a very cool vibe. These two will be playing with us for all of our upcoming shows in January and February. We are very grateful. See where we're playing next.
Our band, Manitou Strings is looking for a new person to join us. We have had the pleasure of a lot of excellent musicians' company over the last five years. Life is uncertain, and transitory and though we have lost, we have also gained a wide net of really talented players. Each time I think OH MY GOSH! This is soooo good!!
The Colorado Springs music community has been good to us. During our hunt for our next newest member, I have had the pleasure of the support of many great local musicians, who will be helping out over the next few months: Bart Wachtler with Red Moon Rounder, Seraphima with The McDeviants, and Deirdre McCarthy have each been generous with their time and talents. Rehearsing with us, playing with us, and supporting us. I am deeply grateful. Josh Alford who has been "in and out" of the band due to his very demanding day job, will also be joining us this Saturday.
Next week we will be at Armadillo Ranch for a late night gig, Thursday, 8 to 11pm (I consider this late night. LOL.) Friday we will be at the lovely Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort, 6 to 8 pm. We will be in the main lodge with a roaring fire. Join us. Saturday night, we'll be at Trails End Taproom, 5 to 7:30 pm. Would love to have you join us for any of these fun gigs.
Manitou Strings, a Colorado Springs-based band, features original material and covers performed in unique and cool ways. Catch us on band camp or Spotify.
