The manitou Strings

show schedule
A band with history, heart and soul. Tight vocals. Solid musicianship.

Manitou Strings Band

Manitou Strings is a Colorado Springs-based ensemble blending roots, Americana, and soulful rock with fresh, modern energy. We play original music alongside covers that are a little more curated than predictable—songs with depth, groove, and heart instead of the usual bar-band greatest hits (though we do tackle a few of them!). Expect strong vocals, great harmonies, and a set that keeps people listening. And no. We're not related. LOL. (Lots of people ask.)

We play community events, concerts, weddings, private parties, corporate gatherings, and yes—bars that want a great night of music. Let us know what you’re planning, and we’ll bring a show your guests will remember.

Meet the band

Spencer Wren
A Louisiana boy, Spencer grew up influenced by church music, harmony  singing and, after a while,  the Grateful Dead. It was through the Dead that Spencer took a deep dive into some of the old tunes in the traditional music catalogue. He has brought many original compositions to the band, and lends strong lead vocals and a fast hand to his guitar playing.

Tabitha Reule
Sparked by the discovery of her great-great grandfather's violin, music became an integral part of Tabitha's life at the age of three. Her early years were steeped in classical training, nurturing a deep appreciation for the instrument's rich heritage. By her pre-teen years, she eagerly embraced the vibrant world of folk music by spending  weekly sessions immersed in lively jam sessions at her local coffee shop  as well as performing at the record store. Surrounded by wonderful mentors and musicians, she not only honed her improvisation skills, but she also discovered the joy of sharing music with a community. This eclectic musical upbringing propelled her to pursue a bachelor of arts in music at Northern State University, where she further diversified her talents by studying both violin and trumpet. This rich background has shaped Tabitha into a versatile musician with a deep appreciation for both tradition and exploration.
Joy Maples
Joy began playing bass to accompany her two sons and it 's been a fun ride ever since. Originally grounded in bluegrass, she has branched out into Gypsy jazz, rock and especially the music of Leadbelly, John Hartford, Hot Rize, Tony Rice and many others. With a strong, brassy voice, she can belt out leads and also contributes to the Strings' harmonies.

Tommy Kay "TK"
A Colorado transplant since 1972, TK began exploring the banjo in the early 70s while at Colorado College. His approach to learning: be in the presence of great players and their talent will magically rub off; it didn’t.  But along the way he soaked off many great players that influenced his playing: Lynn Morris, Marc Horowitz, Tony Trischka, Jens Kruger, Matt Menefee and a few more. TK’s playing with Manitou Strings really begins a new voyage in music in his search for the melodic “sweet spot” in every tune.
