Manitou Strings, a Colorado Springs-based band, is fronted by Spencer Wren, who writes all the original tunes that the band performs. This one, Carp's Lament, is a sweeter song than Wren usually pens. We like it a lot and it helps us remember a dear friend who used to play in the band and then had to go back east to his home to be with family. This is just a little clip of the song. We opened for Leon Majcen on a night when it snowed more than anyone was expecting. I mean---feet of snow. We showed up at Oskar Blues on Tejon, downtown Colorado Springs ready to play and we had a great time. Leon was very kind and engaging and his bass player, #kosmickenny was fun, too. We wish him the best on his travels across America from Florida.
Was it the altitude? Or the edibles? That made last night incredible? Was it the steel guitar? Or that shootin' star that elevated us so far? We've been hanging around for awhile, I like your smile you got my style. We were merely curious. Now we're getting serious. Up Pikes Peak, get away for the night, out in the dark we saw the light. Our veils they fell away so fast; that clumsiness it couldn't last. Was it the pint of Rye? Or O'Ryan in the sky that left me feelin' high, high, high.
An original tune by Spencer Wren, Manitou Strings Our very special thanks to Josh Alford for his artistry, and recording mastery.
